To Our Veterans

|
At VintageATC We want to honor our veterans. So as this page grows I will find new ways
to honor them. Well where does one begin? What could even be said to the men and women of
the United States Armed Forces who have fought and died around the world? The Soldiers of
WWI in the trenches of France, or the U.S Marines of WWII on the beaches of Tarawa? The
Tet Offensive Jan. 1968, or to the deserts of Iraq? I'm not sure where to even start.
I've heard one way to honor someone that has fought and or died to preserve our freedom
is to remember thier name. It's written: "There is no greater love than for a man to lay down
his life for his friends or his country". There are no words that express my thanks or how much
I appreciate them. However, this page is not about me at all.

I retired from the USAF here in Omaha in 1993. I cannot divulge my duties (I'd have to kill ya!
) However, I can say that the gentleman who said he was in
undisclosed locations may have come across a very expensive camera that I threw out of an UH-1 after asking the media guy not to take pictures! He didn't
listen... |

The rest of my time was spent fighting the Battle of Ft. Hood. A Co. 142nd Signal Bn. 2nd Armored Div. Most of my enlistment I spent driving a

| Ron Krueger
USAF, Nov. 1972 - Aug. 1983. I was stationed at Lackland AFB Texas for Basic and Tech School to
be a USAF Security Specialist, then Wallace Air Station, Clark AFB and Camp O'Donnell Philipines
between March 1973 and August 1975, then Ellsworth AFB South Dakota where I worked with Minute Man
Missile Security from August 1975 to March 1979. I was then assigned to Spangdahlem AFB in Germany
for the rest of my time in the service in 1983. I left the Air Force and have lived in Omaha Nebraska
ever since, not too far from Offuitt AFB. I've provided security for a lot of different Air Force
operational resources throughout my time in. I was at Clark AB in 1973 for processing when the last 3
plane loads of Viet Nam POW's came through after being released from Hanoi, and I made it a point to go
to the ramp to see them arrive. My mother saw me on the news on tv for one of those plane loads, with a
bunch of Marines that had a buddy that was on the plane. They invited me to join them on a set of lift
stairs that they were using to get above the croud, so their friend could see them when he stepped off the plane.
I also once provided security for Air Force One at Manilla when President Ford was passing through from China back to
Washington in 1975. |
